RIEKO (Rieko Whitfield) is a Japanese-born ritual artist, composer, and healer whose oracular practice oscillates between speculative mythology, music, and spirituality

She works across live art RITUALS, experimental MUSIC, handmade ALTARS, automatic writing CHANNELS, and signature workshop SEANCES

RIEKO is a 2024-2025 resident at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and a 2022-2023 resident at the Tate Modern and Tate Britain. She has previously worked with institutions like the V&A Museum and V&A East, the Southbank Centre, the Barbican Centre, South London Gallery, and Turner Contemporary, and has been supported by the Arts Council England, British Council, Jerwood Foundation, PRS Foundation, Help Musicians, and Sound and Music.

She has been visiting lecturer at the University of the Arts London (Central Saint Martins and Chelsea College of Art and Design) and the Royal College of Art, and hosted her signature workshops for the Institute of Contemporary Arts’ ICA Creatives programme, Rupert Vilnius’ residency programme, Transart Institute for Creative Research’s international PhD programme, the American University of Paris, and more. She is a 2021 MA graduate of the Royal College of Art, and Founding Director of live art community and cultural agency Diasporas Now.
